Synopsis

Introduction to WordPress. The textbook provides a comprehensive and systematic introduction to the modern WordPress content management system, aimed at students, teachers, and beginners in website development. It covers the basic concepts of WordPress, from local installation and basic settings to content, user, and media management. Special emphasis is placed on themes, plugins, and customizing functionality, including the basics of developing your own plugins, content types, and taxonomies. The textbook also touches on search engine optimization and best practices for website maintenance. The content is supported by numerous practical examples, screenshots, and explanations that enable a gradual understanding of the material. The textbook guides the reader from the basics to more advanced concepts and enables the independent creation and management of a professional WordPress website. It is intended for both educational use and practical application in real projects.

Author Biographies

Saša Brdnik, University of Maribor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Dr. Saša Brdnik is an assistant professor at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She graduated in 2018, completed her master’s degree in 2020, and earned her doctorate in 2024. She teaches practical development of WordPress websites to students and pupils. Her expertise is applied in industrial and scientific projects in collaboration with local organizations and foreign universities. Together with the co-authors of this textbook, she published two papers at international conferences on analyzing and improving WordPress website performance. Her research interests include learning analytics, explainable artificial intelligence, and human–computer interaction, and related interdisciplinary topics.

Tjaša Heričko, University of Maribor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Dr. Tjaša Heričko is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor, where she teaches on the study programs Informatics and Data Technologies and Media Communications. She is the author of numerous scientific and professional publications in the fields of Software Engineering and Data Engineering. As a member of the Institute of Informatics, she actively participates in national and international research and development projects.

Špela Čučko, University of Maribor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Špela Čučko holds a master’s degree in Informatics and Communication Technologies. She is currently working as a teaching assistant and researcher at the Institute of Informatics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor, where she is also completing her doctoral studies. Špela teaches courses in the Informatics and Data Technologies and Media Communications study programs, including a course specifically focused on the practical development of web solutions using WordPress. Additionally, she applies her knowledge and experience in WordPress development to various projects. Her research interests include decentralized and self-sovereign identities, blockchain technology, usability, and user experience.

Sašo Karakatič, University of Maribor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Dr. Sašo Karakatič is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor, and a member of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory (ISL). In his teaching, he shares his expertise in machine learning with university students, working professionals, technicians, and experts from other fields. He publishes the results of his research in machine learning in renowned international scientific journals and conferences. He also serves as a reviewer and editor for numerous international journals with a high impact factor. He applies his machine learning expertise in practice by leading numerous industrial and scientific projects in collaboration with local companies and foreign universities.
