Awareness and Use of Open Data among Slovenian Enterprises
Synopsis
The concept of open data has evolved significantly over the past decade, as reflected in the maturity of governmental policies and initiatives, as well as in the quality, scope, and accessibility of public data. Expectations that open data will contribute to value creation, innovation, and various economic, social, and environmental transformations are high. Despite the high potential and strong expectations, little is known about the use of open data in enterprises. While open data maturity is monitored by several organizations, measuring the actual use and impact of open data in enterprises is considerably more challenging. In this paper, we analyse the awareness and use of open data among Slovenian enterprises. For this purpose, we developed a survey questionnaire and conducted a survey on a sample of Slovenian enterprises. The analysis shows that awareness and use of open data in Slovenian companies remain limited, with micro and small enterprises, as well as industries with low levels of information technology adoption, lagging the most.
